Lauren Phillips is a freelance stage manager, utilizing the entire world as her booth. Originally from South Texas, Lauren spent very little time traveling while growing up – as most Texans do. Once she graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos, she took off across Interstate-35 and tried her hand at working in Austin. After four grueling months of crying a lot and ignoring the bills piling up on her desk, Lauren sought out a career on the ocean. In a whirlwind month, Lauren made her first work related journey…four states away to Florida. It was there she began her lifestyle as a sailor and spent the next couple of months rehearsing as an assistant Stage Manager for Norwegian Cruise Line. She quickly moved up through the ranks and found herself on her first ship ever – The Norwegian Dawn.
Many many months and countless countries later, Lauren has continued her journey across the world while stage managing. Her most recent adventure has even brought her into the world of circus on the Norwegian Epic as the Production Stage Manager for Cirque Dreams - Epicurean. In addition to her work on the ocean, Lauren decided to spend some time living in a coffin – also known as a tour bus. She spent the early months of 2017 traveling across the United States in a bus and stage managing for the world premiere of Brain Candy Live! – a new show featuring Mythbuster’s Adam Savage and VSauce’s Michael Stevens.
From singers and dancers to magicians, contortionists, hand balancers, acrobats, jugglers, comedians, roller skaters, and so much more, Lauren has spent her recent years wrapped in a whirlwind of passport stamps and airport lobbies. Since leaving her small town in Texas, Lauren has managed to see the world and do what she loves – and surprisingly even make money doing it. From New Orleans, Louisiana, to Santorini, Greece, Lauren has been making call scripts and chastising performers for lateness across the globe.
